Wywiad z autorką z zagranicy L.A.Fiore "Bestia: Przebudzenie Lizzie Danton"

Bookaholic and writer :

1)What can you say about Brochan's childhood?

L.A.Fiore:

The idea behind Brochan’s childhood was to show that not all monsters are evil; some are born that way and some are the products of what is done to them. We all have our limits, we all hit that wall and when we do, something inside breaks. But breaks mend…it’s never quite the same, and there’s always a lingering effect because of that break, but a person can be healed with the right kind of care.

2)What can you say about Brochan's father who beat him?

L.A.Fiore:

Brochan’s father was a monster…born that way. Using the excuse of the loss of his wife to abuse his son, but his relationship with his wife wasn’t healthy. He was too obsessed, put too much of his own happiness in her hands. Everyone else was accountable for the problems in his life, everyone but him.

3)What can you say about Elizabeth's parents?

L.A.Fiore:

Lizzie’s parents…they were both very selfish and self-absorbed people. At least with her father, he was who he was. He never wanted kids, didn’t pretend to be anything more. He should have stepped up when he learned of Lizzie, but at least he was consistent and, in his way, made the smallest effort. Her mother was another monster, only out for herself, and her disregard for her child left a mark. And that was what I was trying to show…no one lives in a bubble, and that our actions impact others.

4)Brochan and Elizabeth had a sad childhood but they nevertheless met and they fell in love.  What's your opinion on the subject?

L.AFiore:

No one’s course is set. Sometimes it’s really hard to change directions, outside factors influencing us, or inhibiting us, but there’s always hope for better. These two could have given up, closed off, but a part of them still clung to that hope. Sometimes the greatest things that happen to us happen when we’re at rock bottom.

Bookaholic and writer:

5)Your book is an interpretation of the fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast".  Do you agree with that?  What is your opinion?

L.A.Fiore:

Savage has a little bit of a few fairy tales, Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood, even Sleeping Beautybecause Lizzie and Brochan were both asleep for a long time…going through the motions. That was done on purpose. Fairy tales and happily ever afters always come on the cusp of pain, danger and death. You can’t have one without the other and that was the point of the story…things can seem bleak, but your salvation can come in all shapes.

Bookaholic and writer:

6)What can you say about the main characters, Brochan and Elizabeth?

L.A.Fiore:

I think Brochan and Lizzie are both flawed characters and that makes them endearing. People who don’t always make the right decisions, downright terrible ones, but who aren’t evil, just damaged and trying to survive. And it’s watching them pull themselves back, finding redemption…we’re all flawed so it’s relatable.

Bookaholic and writer:

7)What can you say about supporting and side characters?

L.A.Fiore:

The supporting characters give us more insight into the main characters, many of which helped form the characters Brochan and Lizzie. In my stories, I try to have a rich supporting cast because we are all influenced by the people around us, and knowing them we get to know the hero and heroine better.

Bookaholic and writer:

8)Are there heroes in this book that you can't see?

L.AFiore:

Fenella and Finnegan were heroes, never leaving Brochan, protecting him. Brianna was also a hero, always believing the best of Brochan and pulling him back when he went too far astray. But Fergus I think was the biggest unsung hero for Brochan. We can’t completely lose ourselves in the dark when there’s someone still holding a candle. Fergus was that man for Brochan. He didn’t like Brochan, but he was also Brochan’s conscience.

Lizzie had fewer heroes in her life. Her biggest being Brochan because he understood her in a way no one ever had. He understood the darkness in her, the demons, because he had them too.

9)Who are your favorite heroes?

L.A.Fiore:

My husband, my kids, and my sister are my favorite heroes. Whatever is happening in my world, they are there to laugh with me, cry with me, pick me up, or pull me back down.
